Some might want to sweep under the rug the fact that LaPorte is among area communities where heroin is an invasive killer. But we should applaud the fact that steps are being taken to help those addicted.

F4Frontline Foundations, 605 Michigan Ave., LaPorte, accepted a $3,000 boost toward its goal of helping local heroin-addicted individuals as the Unity Foundation of LaPorte County presented a check May 19, 2015.

Thanks to Unity and other donors, Frontline, a nonprofit substance abuse treatment center, is within days of opening its LaPorte facility that will offer individual treatment, group counseling, family counseling and art therapy for those with a heroin addiction problem.

Frontline, which also has centers in Chesterton and Valparaiso, has finished renovations at its LaPorte location thanks to various donations, including $20,000 from Mayor Blair Milo’s 2015 Mayor’s Ball.
