Poignant yet picturesque, these three winning entries in the LaPorte County Historical Society’s Photo Contest personify this year’s theme, “Abandoned Structures of LaPorte County.”

The top three winners were named Saturday, May 16, 2015, after judging by LaPorte County Historian Fern Eddy Schultz, Bob Wellinski and Dori Huber.

Winners were (photo below, from left): 3rd place, Ashley Joy Wisnieski; 1st place, John Cruz; and 2nd place, Joan Dittman.

First-place winner John Cruz captured a colorful image of Building F-1-8 at the former Kingsbury Ordnance Plant.

Second-place winner Joan Dittman took a stark photo of the former Roberts & Schaeffer grain elevator on Ind. 12.

Third-place winner Ashley Joy Wisnieski shot a photo of some flowers and foliage that refuse to die in the former Bernacchi Greenhouses in LaPorte.

A fourth trophy, the People’s Choice award, will be announced at the end of May. Come to the museum and vote for your People’s Choice favorite, and view all 36 photos submitted for this year’s contest!
