A pedestrian died of his injuries after being struck while walking in the westbound lane of Michigan Boulevard in Michigan City the night of June 9, 2015. About an hour before, the same man was involved in an accident nearby when he was driving a vehicle that ended up in a ditch.
According to Michigan City Police, the 20-year-old man was struck by a Jeep Cherokee driven by a 34-year-old woman at about 9:20 p.m. The woman said she did not see the man until seconds before she struck him. He was walking in the far right-hand side of the westbound lane.
No names have been released yet.
The fatal accident happened near the entrance to Sullair Plant 1, located in the 3700 block of Michigan Boulevard.
Police said the deceased man had been walking along the boulevard with a 19-year-old friend. The Cherokee’s driver was transported to St. Anthony Hospital for drug and alcohol testing; no results have been released yet.
