Frederick “Fred” M. Parks, 84, of LaPorte, died Thursday, June 11, 2015, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born April 20, 1931, in Westville, IN, to Melvin T. and Lennie (Wampler) Parks.
Fred worked as a manager at Delaney Furniture Store in LaPorte. He served honorably in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
On Dec. 22, 1951, he married Phyllis Cearing, who survives.
Also surviving are his beloved children, Debra (Michael) Purcell, Nancy (Harlan) Wiltfong and Robert (Patricia) Parks; five grandchildren, Shonna (Troy) Platz, Jillianne (Justin) Stratton, Allison (Joshua) Murphy, Meagan Parks and Tara (Tony) Lemus; 10 great-grandchildren, Cynee, Trenton, Ashton, Cadence, Aubrey, Noah, Logan, Olivia, Miley, and Jordan; and sister, Lucille Hartsock.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Brandon Parks; sisters, Elizabeth Brown, Ilene Tyner and Mary Knoll; and brothers, Melvin T. Parks Jr., Donald Parks, Lee Parks, Albert Parks and Wayne Parks.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, June 16, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, LaPorte. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 17, at the funeral home with Pastor Roger Ash officiating. Interment will follow at Pine Lake Cemetery, LaPorte.
