A man, not realizing his 3-year-old son was trying to climb onto his truck, pulled out of a driveway and struck the child, according to Michigan City Police.
Police said the father had driven his company pickup truck to visit his children on the evening of June 14, 2015. When he was leaving, the 3-year-old apparently tried to jump onto the foot rail of the truck as it was moving. He slipped and fell underneath the truck as it pulled away.
As the man was driving home, the children’s mother called him and said the child had been struck. He returned to the house and took the child to St. Anthony Hospital. Physicians said the boy needed to be flown to Riley Children’s Hospital in Indianapolis because of injuries to his pelvic area. The boy is expected to be released soon and receive followup treatment.
Police said the man has been cooperating and submitted to a blood draw to check for drugs/alcohol. The investigation is continuing.
