An unusual and fun perspective on the life of Jesus Christ will be offered at this year’s vacation Bible school at The Presbyterian Church of LaPorte, 307 Kingsbury Ave.
”Hometown Nazareth: Where Jesus Was a Kid” will take place Sunday, June 21, through Thursday, June 25, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. indoors each day. Anyone not already registered may do so beginning at 5 p.m. Sunday.
Rev. Dr. Sally Wicks said, “We always do a Bible school set back in Bible days,” and Adella Dutra, Director of Youth Ministries, said, “Hearing the stories of what it was like for Jesus growing up is a great experience for kids, getting to see things similar to what Jesus saw as a child.”
There will be characters in costume and open tents where stories will be told and crafts will be taught. The character of Mary, Jesus’ mother, will be a storyteller, and children will learn crafts including dyeing fabrics, writing Hebrew letters, mixing dough for warm breads, and making natural scrubs.
“It’s going to be so much fun to pretend with the children that we’re back in Jesus’ hometown of Nazareth and visiting with his mother, Mary,” said Wicks. “Children love to pretend, and at the Presbyterian Church we learn so much about God when we pretend with the children.”
The marketplace setting will be lively with music, colors, snacks and conversation.
“Vacation Bible school is a magic place for us at the Presbyterian Church,” said Wicks. “I look forward to this week every year.”
