The LaPorte County Sheriff’s Posse will host a clinic for horse riders on Saturday and Sunday, June 27 and 28, at the LaPorte County Fairgrounds. The instructor will be Mark Waller, director of Horsemanship at Culver Military Academy. Mark also served as a member of the London Metropolitan Police Department’s Mounted Unit in London, England.
Training, which is also a great spectator event, will include Equitation and Formations, Obstacles, and Maintaining Control Under Stressful Situations.
The $150 fee for participants in each day’s training goes to support the Sheriff’s Mounted Posse. This volunteer group has long served the sheriff’s office and the citizens of LaPorte County by providing horses and riders for crowd control at large events, search-and-rescue missions, and proud representation at many area parades and events. Members of the Sheriff’s Posse supply their own equipment and volunteer their time for all police-related activities.
“Our posse has a long-standing tradition of serving in LaPorte County and we are proud to have each and every member as an asset to the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office,” Sheriff John Boyd said in a press release. “I hope that anyone who has an interest in learning from this great instructor will join our posse in training.”
