The LaPorte City Band will perform its sixth concert of the season Wednesday, July 8, at 7 p.m. at the Dennis F. Smith Amphitheater in Fox Park.
This is the 137th consecutive season of the band, which is under the direction of Charles Steck. The concert is free; Arts in the Park will offer refreshments for a small fee and also will exhibit artwork and poetry.

Michael Scheck, the LaPorte City Band’s principal trumpet, is director of bands at South Central High School. He holds degrees in Music Education, Music Composition and Trumpet Performance from Bowling Green and Western Illinois universities, and performs with the LaPorte County Symphony Orchestra, South Shore Orchestra and Windiana Concert Band.
This week’s featured trumpet trio consists of graduates of LaPorte High School and trumpet students of conductor Charles Steck. Jennifer Shelton is a 2009 graduate of LaPorte High School and a 2013 graduate of Anderson University. She is now a teacher at Crichfield School. Olivia Jongkind is a 2013 graduate of LaPorte High School and a student at the University of Indianapolis, studying nursing. Madison Kutch is a 2014 graduate of LaPorte High School and a student at Valparaiso University, studying Music Education.
