Jan. 3, 1917 — Thirty-five of the salesmen of the Hobart M. Cable piano company of LaPorte held their annual convention at the factory yesterday and today.

Jan. 3, 1967 — Jack Ruby, the killer of presidential assassin Lee Harvey Oswald, dies of cancer in the same hospital where both President Kennedy and Oswald died three years ago.

Jan. 3, 1992 — American children suffer more behavioral disorders, don’t do as well on standardized tests, and are more likely to be obese compared to children 30 years ago.

Jan. 3, 2007 — Just three days after finishing eight years on the LaPorte County Commission, Marlow Harmon dies unexpectedly in his home at age 69.
