Jan. 13, 1917 — The John Hilt Lake Ice Company will begin cutting ice at Fishtrap Lake at Fish Lake. After three days, the workers will move to Pine Lake in LaPorte without interruption.

Jan. 13, 1967 — Charles B. Shapiro, chairman of the board of the planned LaPorte Hospital, reveals the pending transfer of the thresher plant property of Allis-Chalmers at the west edge of downtown as a site for the planned 200-bed hospital.

Jan. 13, 1992 — Rudd Oldsmobile-Cadillac-GMC sells its business, ending more than 16 years of automotive sales and service in LaPorte.

Jan. 13, 2007 — Jerry Cooley is re-elected as LaPorte County Council president and Mark Yagelski is elected as vice president.
