Two years almost to the day that Glade Montgomery took the job as LaPorte Community School Corp. superintendent, he resigned from that role at a special LaPorte School Board meeting Wednesday night, July 3, 2013.

Montgomery announced that he has taken a position as vice president with Project Lead the Way, a nationwide organization based in Indianapolis. According to its website, www.pltw.org, the nonprofit organization “is the leading provider of rigorous and innovative science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education curricular programs used in middle and high schools across the U.S. … STEM education programs like the one offered by PLTW engage students in activities-, projects- and problem-based learning, which provides hands-on classroom experiences. Students create, design, build, discover, collaborate and solve problems while applying what they learn in math and science. They’re also exposed to STEM fields through professionals from local industries who supplement the real-world aspect of the curriculum through mentorships and workplace experiences.”

Montgomery took the helm as LaPorte schools superintendent in July 2011. He replaced Judith DeMuth, who resigned to take a superintendent’s job in Monroe County, IN. Montgomery was hired from a list of more than a dozen applicants after a selection process involving interviews and candidate forums. He had earlier been associate superintendent of schools in Lafayette, where he had worked for 27 years, including serving several years as principal of Lafayette Jefferson High School. In his 27 years of service, he held positions as a mathematics teacher, coach, assistant athletic director, assistant/associate principal, and principal before becoming chief academic officer at the central office level.
