The health of Nathan Woessner, 6, continues to improve after he was buried in sand for several hours on July 12, 2013, at Mount Baldy in Michigan City. Plenty of heroes are responsible for this miracle, including members of LaPorte County Emergency Medical Services (EMS), who were among first on the scene, were instrumental in Nathan’s rescue, and provided life-saving care in the initial crucial moments.

As of Thursday, July 18, Nathan’s condition had been upgraded from critical to serious. Dr. Rachel Wolfson of The University of Chicago Medicine Comer Children’s Hospital said he “is recovering from sedation and continues to respond to commands.”

At its July 17 meeting, the LaPorte County Commission congratulated county EMS employees (pictured above) involved in Nathan’s rescue.

As the community rejoices in Nathan’s recovery, please join WNLP in thanking the many local emergency personnel responsible for his rescue — EMS, firefighters, 911 personnel, police, businesses that provided heavy equipment and expertise, and others who may, so far, not be identified.
