John Matt Lilovich, 83, of LaPorte, died peacefully at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2013, in his home.
He was born Feb. 17, 1930, in Chicago to Matthew and Ethel (Ginay) Lilovich.
John owned the Great Lakes Duck Farm in Michigan City, IN. He honorably served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. John was a member of the American Legion of LaPorte, Coolspring Farmers Institute, LaPorte County Farm Bureau, Coolspring Farm Bureau, and Moose Lodge of Michigan City.
On Jan. 28, 1961, in LaPorte, he married his wife of 52 years, Mary (Bannwart) Lilovich, who survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Julie Lilovich; four sons, Michael and Gregory, both of LaPorte, Jeffrey of Midlothian, VA, and Kevin of LaPorte; two sisters, Loretta Sikorski and Eleanor Lilovich, both of Michigan City; one brother, George (Anna) Lilovich of Lake City, FL; two grandchildren, Christopher John (C.J.) and Carter Lilovich; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents and one sister, Virginia Lilovich.
A funeral celebrating his life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, at Springville Community Church, 5244 N. Ind. 39, LaPorte, with Pastors Luke Bedtelyon and Jack Andrews officiating. Visitation will be at Lakeview Funeral Home and Crematory, LaPorte, on Friday, Aug. 9, from 4 to 7 p.m. and at the church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the service. Burial will be in Springville Cemetery, LaPorte, with a military honors service conducted by the LaPorte Honor Guard.
