Mrs. Norma Jean Irwin, 79, of LaPorte, died Thursday, Aug. 8, 2013, at IU Health LaPorte Hospital.
She was born July 10, 1934, in Menominee, MI, to Leonard and Leta (Klontz) Bright.
Norma Jean had worked for American Home Foods, retiring in 1979. She was a very proud union worker. She liked playing cards and enjoyed participating in political events.
On Nov. 25, 1951, in LaPorte, she married Charles O. Irwin, who preceded her in death April 1, 2000.
Norma was also preceded in death by her parents, grandson Eric, and sister Bernice.
She is survived by her two daughters, Susan (Michael) Mollenhauer and Charla Orcutt, both of LaPorte; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; six sisters, Fern (Larry) Duffrin of Nevada, Mary (Dean) Waracr of Michigan, Marty (Speace) Bichel of Kansas, Wendy Sloan of Texas, Susie Erickson of Missouri, and Rose (Malcolm) Boyd of South Bend, IN; and two brothers, Leonard (Terri) Bright of Idaho and Tommy (Mary Lynn) Bright of California.
The family will receive friends at Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, LaPorte, on Monday, Aug. 12, from 4 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday, Aug. 13, from 10 to 11 a.m. A life celebration will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Jeff Zigler officiating. Interment will follow at Patton Cemetery, LaPorte.
