The board of LaPorte Lions met Aug. 12, 2013, at Western Inn. Boss Lion Doug Buell asked Sandra Provan to offer prayer. She read the minutes of the July 8, 2013, board meeting, which were approved. John Spiggle gave the financial report, which was approved. Buell gave the Lions Alert financial report, which needs changes.

Committee reports: Buell said Candy Days will be Sept. 27 and 28 with Door Village Lions at LaPorte Post Office; Maple City and LaPorte Lions at Kroger and Al’s East on alternate days.

The fair committee has nothing to report yet. White Cane Days needs a chairman.

Old business: A report on the planning meeting was distributed. The club will have a booth at the Sunflower Fest Sept. 21, with drawing prizes of four $50 meat packages. Rita Mrozinski will chair the event. Buell said he will order brochures and signs listing the club’s projects. Leos will be asked to wear the Lion costume. A motion to spend up to $445, including registration fee, was approved.

Buell and Paul Marsh are working on an ad for the newspapers.

Buell said rehabbing a home for a wheelchair-bound man will cost $2,900. The club will apply to Helping Hands for assistance.

New business: Members will be asked for input at the next meeting on a new meeting place after Western Inn closes.

The budget for 2013-14 was approved.

The next regular meeting will be Aug. 29.
