Two more heroin arrests Aug. 16: one dealing, one possession

A LaPorte man was arrested on charges of dealing heroin and a LaPorte woman was arrested on a charge of possessing heroin on Aug. 16, 2013. They marked the sixth and seventh heroin-related arrests made in two weeks in LaPorte.

Benjamin Heiman, 31, had been wanted for two counts of dealing heroin, both Class A felonies. He was arrested at his home in the 300 block of Niles Street by LaPorte County Metro Operations officers.

Amber Malstaff, 29, of LaPorte, was arrested after a traffic stop by LaPorte Police. She had been wanted for possession of heroin, a Class D felony, and possession of paraphernalia, a Class A misdemeanor.

The arrests are the result of an ongoing investigation into the sale and distribution of heroin in the LaPorte area. Additional arrests are anticipated.

The public is encouraged to report potential drug activity to the LaPorte County Metro Operations Unit by calling (219) 325-9022. Metro Operations is a multi-jurisdictional drug task force comprised of investigators from the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office and LaPorte Police Department.
