Aug. 24, 1913 — The adopted daughter of a couple in Plymouth, Indiana, was kidnapped by Julia E. Work, matron of an orphans’ asylum in Plymouth.

Aug. 24, 1963 — LaPorte’s new National Tea grocery store sets its grand opening for Tuesday at the East Side Market.

Aug. 24, 1988 — LaPorte’s third mall will be built at U.S. 35 and Johnson Road.

Aug. 24, 2003 — Violent crimes in the nation are down 50%.
