Redamak’s owner James “Jimbo” Maroney, 1926-2013

James MaroneyJames P. “Jimbo” Maroney, 87, of New Buffalo, MI, died peacefully at 9:55 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2013, at IU Health LaPorte Hospital.

He was born Feb. 27, 1926, in Chicago to Gerald and Mary (Basta) Maroney.

James and his wife, Angie, purchased Redamak’s restaurant in New Buffalo in 1975 and operated the business for 38 years. A bricklayer by trade and a member of the Bricklayers Union of Chicago, he also owned Wil-Mar Mason Contractors for more than 20 years. James enlisted at the age of 18 and honorably served in the U.S. Army Air Corps and played basketball during that time. He was a member of the New Buffalo Yacht Club and attended St. Patrick Catholic High School in Chicago, where he played basketball. James enjoyed socializing with his friends and family through his business, playing golf, crossword puzzles, traveling with family, and vacationing during the off season.

On Sept. 16, 1950, in Chicago, he married the love of his life, Angie (Belletire) Maroney, who survives.

Also surviving are his sons, James L. Maroney of New Buffalo and Chuck (Linda) Maroney of LaPorte; four grandchildren, Charles Patrick (Maryclare), Katherine Marie, Nicole Angeline and Gianna Louise Maroney; and a special family member, Braeden.

Preceding him in death were his parents and two brothers, Gerald and Francis Maroney.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. CST on Wednesday, Sept. 4, at Notre Dame Catholic Church, 1010 Moore Rd., Michigan City, IN, with Rev. Keith McClellan officiating. Visitation will be at Lakeview Funeral Home and Crematory, LaPorte, on Tuesday, Sept. 3, from 2 to 8 p.m. CST, and at the church on Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. CST until the Mass. Following the Mass, a procession will proceed to Redamak’s and then continue on for burial in Pine Grove Cemetery, New Buffalo. Immediately following the graveside service, a luncheon will be hosted by the Maroney family and staff of Redamak’s for all friends and family in attendance.

In Honor of James “Jimbo” Maroney, Redamak’s will be closed for the entire day Wednesday, Sept. 4, and will reopen Thursday, Sept. 5, at noon EST.
