First Friday in the Chapel will feature mezzo soprano Lucy Vergo, accompanied by pianist Eleanor DeMarco, on Dec. 6 starting at noon in the IU Health LaPorte Hospital Family Chapel.
All community members are invited to this free concert. The First Friday in the Chapel series offers outstanding musical performances the first Friday of every month.
Vergo studied voice at the Eastman School of Music with Pamela Kurau. She has delighted audiences across the U.S. with her extensive repertoire, ranging from Broadway to sacred music to classical and opera. She has performed and recorded as a soloist and section leader throughout the upstate and western New York area in churches and for various choral groups. Since moving to Indiana eight years ago, Lucy has been active in LaPorte Little Theatre, LaPorte County Symphony Orchestra, The Tenors Three, and the LaPorte Service League’s Children’s plays. She resides in LaPorte with her husband, Jim.
Pianist Eleanor DeMarco earned her master’s degree at IU Bloomington. She taught elementary education for 18 years in New Carlisle and taught music in the LaPorte schools for 22 years. She plays for various churches and sings with the Chancel Choir at First United Methodist Church. Eleanor resides in LaPorte and has two daughters and six granddaughters.
