Robert Chester Toutloff, 80, of Michigan City, IN, died peacefully Friday, Dec. 13, 2013, at Life Care Center of Michigan City.
He was born Aug. 9, 1933, in Baltimore, MD, to Charles Louis and Winifred M. (Teets) Toutloff.
Robert was known for his fantastic photography and musical talents. During the 1960s, he played piano with musicians featuring the Big Band sounds. Later, Robert and two friends formed a popular jazz band, The Village Trio. As a photographer, Robert’s pride and joy was his photo of Pope John Paul II. For most of his life he took pictures, not just for the love of it, but also for corporations and companies, finally culminating in his dream job, an ad agency in downtown Chicago.
In December of 1953 in LaPorte, he married Cecelia Gallagher, who survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Mary Beth (Steven) Peterka of Trail Creek, IN, and Ann Marie (William) Sandy of Spring, TX; three sons, Jeffery Toutloff of LaPorte, Steven Toutloff of Beaumont, TX, and Paul Toutloff of Trail Creek; one brother, James P. (Rose) Toutloff of LaPorte; three sisters, Judith A. Hallin of Michigan City, Mary Jane (Arnold) McDuffee of Anderson, IN, and Madeline V. Detweiler of Lufkin, TX; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, Dec. 20, at Lakeview Funeral Home and Crematory, LaPorte, with Rev. Kevin Huber of Queen of All Saints Catholic Church officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. at the funeral home.
