Jan. 3, 1989 – When the banging of the president’s gavel called the Indiana Senate to order, LaPorte native Dennis Neary occupied the Senate minority leader post, the No. 2 position of power in the 50-member body.
Jan. 3, 2004 – Indianapolis Mayor Bart Peterson dyes the water in a downtown canal blue: The Colts are in the playoffs.
