Paper Bag Flowers 1You might have to navigate a snow drift or two to get there, but it’ll feel a little more like spring once you settle in at the lunchtime Brown Bag Gardening Series.

The series, presented by LaPorte County Master Gardeners, will consist of four sessions (all from noon to 1 p.m.), two each in LaPorte and Michigan City:

– Wednesday, Jan. 22, “How Will Your Garden Grow?” Purdue Extension-LaPorte County office, 2857 W. Ind. 2, LaPorte.

– Wednesday, Feb. 19, “Seed Starting,” Michigan City Public Library, 100 E. 4th St.

– Wednesday, March 19, “Landscaping 101,” Michigan City Public Library.

– Wednesday, April 16, “Weed Wisdom — Methods of Organic Weed Control,” Purdue Extension-La Porte County office, LaPorte.

Some topics covered will include designing your garden beds in the landscape, planning what to plant, how to start seeds indoors, and controlling weeds to have a productive garden all year long.

You can come to as many sessions as you wish. The fee is just $5 for each session, which includes informational handouts, or $15 for all four sessions. No need to pre-register; just show up.

For more information, call the extension office at 219-324-9407 and download a flyer at http://www.ag.purdue.edu/counties/laporte (look under “Hot Topics” or “Master Gardeners”).

The LaPorte County Master Gardener Association is one of the Purdue Cooperative Extension Service programs and helps fulfill the state motto of “Helping Others Grow” by training volunteers to promote good gardening and horticultural practices.
