Sweet revenge: Slicers shut out Wolves 24-0 to move on in Sectional; here’s info on next week’s game

That game back on Oct. 10, where the Slicers lost to Michigan City 34-31 in double OT,  is waayyy back there in the rear-view mirror now. Revenge was sweet Friday, Oct. 31, as LaPorte blanked the Wolves, 24-0, in the first round of Sectional action at Ames Field.

The Slicers returned to City with a game plan that led to a reversal of fortune, led by their record-setting running back Charles Salary. They took a dominating running attack, sprinkled in a few short passes and walked away with the win.

Both teams were hampered by strong winds, freezing temps and some snow, but Salary was sure-footed as he bested a record set in 2006 by Airrence Shark. Salary’s 242 yards took his total yardage for the season to 2,227.

LaPorte also saw scores from kicker Casey Cornett, and touchdowns from Tyler Littlejohn and Gino Francesconi.

Despite the weather, the Slicer faithful came out in droves to support the football squad. The visitor stands were packed with orange and black, with the crowd easily double in comparison to the Wolves’. One has to wonder if the overwhelming support for the Slicers added to the outcome of the game. Kind of makes it important to make a huge showing next Friday …

The Slicers will host Mishawaka in the Sectional showdown at Kiwanis Field on Friday, Nov. 7. Game time is 6:30 p.m.; gates open at 5:30 p.m. Admission is $6 (no charge for preschoolers; no passes accepted for this game).

Change-Clock-Change-BatteryIt’s time to change your clocks, AND your batteries.

“Fall back” this Saturday night or Sunday morning and while you’re at it, change the batteries in your smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors.

LaPorte Police also remind us to check those detectors to make sure they’re working properly. “Increased use of fireplaces, furnaces and other heating sources during the colder months make this especially important. Remember, CO detectors usually wear out in 5-7 years so it could be time for a new one.”
