Katie Squires, a former kindergarten teacher at Kingsbury Elementary School and speech-language pathologist for LaPorte Community Schools, graduated with her Ph.D. from Utah State University on May 3, 2013.
Squires’ doctoral degree, funded in part by the U.S. Department of Education, focused on language and literacy. During her time at USU, she received a Presidential Fellowship from the university. In 2011, she received a fellowship from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services for future leaders in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology.
While at USU, Dr. Squires authored articles appearing in peer-reviewed academic journals. In 2012, she was named Outstanding Graduate Student Speech-Language-Pathology Researcher of the Year.
Before moving to Utah to attend USU, Dr. Squires and her family lived in New Carlisle, IN. Her husband, Scot, was news editor for a number of years at The News-Dispatch in Michigan City and a reporter for The LaPorte County Herald-Argus.
Dr. Squires holds elementary education licenses in Indiana and Illinois and speech-language pathology licenses in Indiana and Utah.
