April 18, 1914 – There are 15 applicants, several women being among the number, for the job of LaPorte postmaster.
April 18, 1964 – The Modine Manufacturing Company announces the appointment of A. W. Leafe as LaPorte plant manager.
April 18, 1989 – At least 15 sailors are killed in an ammunition explosion and fire on the World War II battleship USS Iowa while on exercises northeast of Puerto Rico.
