Music for Food Fest, a jam-packed event to benefit the LaPorte Backpack Program is scheduled for Saturday, June 8. The event will include an all-day music festival featuring over 20 local artists from 9 a.m. to midnight. A 5k race from 7 to 9 a.m. will kick off the event. The day will also feature arts and crafts, food vendors, a silent auction, kid-friendly games, free art lessons for children, and a free kids’ movie to be played at dusk outside! All of this will take place at Casey’s Lanes, 610 Colfax Ave., LaPorte.
Tone Cardinale is the local musician organizing Music for Food Fest. He said it stemmed from “an idea to get all of the musicians in the already interconnected LaPorte music scene together to play a big show” and benefit a local charity. After a suggestion from his friend and fellow local musician Dan Moore of The Dan Moore Band, they chose the Salvation Army’s LaPorte Backpack Program as the deserving charity.
Casey’s Lanes volunteered to host the event. Judy Arndt, one of the owners of Casey’s Lanes, said, “when I saw Tone’s post on Facebook, I thought it would be a great match since we support our local musicians as much as we can.”
Musical acts will include: Nutshell, c.o.r., Goliath, Chris Meadows and the Mo’tones, The Dan Moore Band, and many acoustic singles and duos. More musical acts will be announced in the coming weeks.
Tickets can be purchased now at Thode Floral, 1609 Lincolnway. Other avenues of procuring tickets will be announced soon. Tickets are $10 now or $15 the day of the event. Children 12 and under can attend for free.
