May 5, 1914 – The health officer makes inspections of dairies and milk in and about LaPorte. When the milk is sold without pasteurization, the requirements are very strict.
May 5, 1964 – Eight talented and attractive young women will vie for the title of Miss LaPorte County on Saturday in the pageant sponsored by the LaPorte Jaycees.
May 5, 1989 – Westville Correctional Center’s prison population has increased by 370 percent since it was created in 1979, making it the largest prison in Indiana.
May 5, 2004 – Mitch Daniels draws on support from President Bush to easily win Indiana’s GOP nomination for governor in the first gubernatorial primary of the year.
