Sharefest 2014: 150-plus volunteers accomplish 30-plus projects in LaPorte

Sharefest 2014 on May 3 drew more than 150 volunteers who joined to complete more than 30 projects to improve individual and public properties in the community of LaPorte.

In this fourth annual event, volunteers from the churches and organizations of LaPorte started on the steps of LaPorte City Hall for a brief orientation and prayer in the morning. At 8:30 a.m., they were released to serve the city.

What did they accomplish?

– Door Village United Methodist Church helped at a REAL Services home and spread mulch at Koomler Park

– Salem United Methodist Church helped a REAL Services homeowner

– Granger Community Church spread mulch at Rees Park and at the Civic Auditorium, and also helped a homeowner with spring cleaning

– First Church of God cleaned up at Craven Pond

– First United Methodist Church helped five homeowners with yardwork

– IU Health LaPorte Hospital chaplains helped a homeowner with fix-up and clean-up projects

– Bethany Lutheran Church built a ramp for a resident and picked up trash in a four-block radius of the church

1781870_10203493570247175_948663203742381881_n– Liberty Bible Church helped build dugouts at Scharf Field, spread mulch at Koomler Park and Scharf Field, and helped two REAL Services homeowners

– LaPorte Assembly of God removed the sod from a baseball field at Fox Park so the park department can reclaim that field, spread mulch at Allesee Park and helped a REAL Services homeowner

– Crossroads Christian Center helped a REAL Services homeowner

– Presbyterian Church of LaPorte spread mulch at Clark Park

– Campus Life/Youth for Christ volunteers served at two REAL Service homes.

Sharefest organizers offered a big thanks to LaPorte Park Department Superintendent Brian Niksch and his staff for preparing many of the day’s projects, and to Allen Holt of REAL Services for connecting volunteers with some residents in need of help.
