While LaPorte’s beaches always draw crowds during nice weather, this weekend took the cake.
Stone Lake and Pine Lake Beaches were absolutely packed Saturday and especially Sunday as families flocked to the Maple City Grand Prix event on Stone.
LaPorte’s hotels, restaurants, groceries, gas stations and more hummed as they accommodated racers and visitors. And Mother Nature couldn’t have been nicer, with abundant sun and warmth Friday through Sunday.
A spectacular feature of the weekend was a dazzling fireworks show set off Saturday night by Ace Pyrotechnics of Michigan. Dozens of boaters bobbed on Pine Lake well into the night as they enjoyed the free show put on across the channel.
This is the second year for the Grand Prix, organized by the LaPorte County Convention and Visitors Bureau with assistance from the City of LaPorte and many sponsors. Looks like it’s gaining speed.
