Officers who responded to a domestic disturbance call on Monday, June 2, 2014, found explosive devices inside a home in the 7200 west block of CR-125 North, according to a LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office news release.
Deputies responded to the domestic call at about 9:03 p.m. and discovered the devices. Officers removed a woman from the home who had made the original call. The man involved, Robert Ofcky, 54, had fled.
The LaPorte County Emergency Response Team (ERT), Porter County Regional Bomb Squad and agents from the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATF) were summoned.
Investigators remained at the home until approximately 5:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 3, to clear the explosives. Later Tuesday, an arrest warrant was issued for Ofcky on a charge of possession of an explosive device, a Class C felony. Ofcky is 6 feet, 3 inches tall and 265 pounds with short brown hair and green eyes. He may be wearing eyeglasses and may have a goatee. He has the letters “N A N C Y” tattooed on his left fingers, just below his knuckles. Photos are provided by the sheriff’s office here from a previous arrest. He might be driving a gold-colored Ford F150 pickup.
The sheriff’s office cautions anyone who sees Ofcky to not approach or attempt to detain him; instead, call 911 or Det. Sergeant Kevin Ulam at (219) 326-7700 ext. 2556.
