Vendla D. Kleca, 90, died at 5:10 a.m. June 22, 2014, at Miller’s Merry Manor, New Carlisle, IN.
She was born Sept. 27, 1923, in LaPorte to Walter and Catherine (Iselman) Johnson.
Vendla worked at Bastian-Morley and American Home Foods and was a farmer with her husband. She was a member of the Rolling Prairie, IN, VFW Auxiliary.
On Jan. 3, 1947, in Michigan City, IN, she married John Kleca, who preceded her in death on July 15, 1981.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Lois Johnson, Gladys Keller and Madeline Hutton; and three brothers, Owen Johnson, Kenneth Johnson and Walter Johnson.
She is survived by one son, Joseph Kleca of LaPorte; three grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Marceline Breese of LaPorte; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be at Essling Funeral Home, LaPorte, on Wednesday, June 25, from 4 to 7 p.m. and on Thursday, June 26, from 10 to 11 a.m. A funeral service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Evan Lash officiating. Burial will be in Rolling Prairie Cemetery.
