Renowned pilot CarolAnn Garratt will share her stories of flying around the world at a special LaPorte Municipal Airport event on Saturday, July 19. Garratt will speak at 6 p.m. at the LaPorte Aero Club headquarters at the airport, 2341 Ind. 39. Refreshments will be served. All are invited to this special evening.
Garratt, a world record-setting pilot and author, has flown around the world three times: in 2003, 2009 and 2011. Her 2009 flight set a world record of 8.5 days. Garratt is also a champion for ALS research, with 100 percent of the proceeds from her book sales going directly to finding a cure for the disease that took her mother. So far she has raised more than $400,000.
