Once a bustling hub of LaPorte industry, the area now known as NewPorte Landing will soon begin a new chapter.
The vacant property along Pine Lake Avenue, bordered by Truesdell Avenue, was once the site of Allis-Chalmers and other businesses. The acreage has slowly been cleared of old structures over the years in preparation for the NewPorte Landing development concept.
After plans with a few potential developers fell through in past years, a new business will finally sprout on the empty lot.
Mayor Blair Milo announced via social media that a Dunkin’ Donuts will become NewPorte Landing’s first resident, with a building going up next to the County-Wide Properties real estate office. Milo said construction is scheduled to begin this fall.
“We are optimistic that this will be the first of many new businesses coming to LaPorte in the near future,” Milo said. “We will all continue to enjoy our home-grown local establishments, and at the same time show that LaPorte can support business diversity.”
LaPorte used to have a small Dunkin’ Donuts shop on Lincolnway, but it closed several years ago.
