Come and meet LaPorte author John R. Mitchell and learn about his book “George and Smokey: A Tale of Two Cats,” on Sunday, Nov. 2, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the LaPorte County Small Animal Shelter, 2855 W. Ind. 2, LaPorte. Refreshments will be served.

The book tells the story of Smokey, who is adventurous and gets into trouble. He is trapped, and his owner doesn’t know where he is. Only George knows. Is this the end of Smokey? Who will come to his aid? The book is based on a true story.
Mitchell, a graduate of Purdue University, spent most of his years working in the metal fabrication industry as a purchasing manager before he retired. He is an Air Force veteran, having served in Vietnam.
