The La Porte County Historical Society will hold the first meeting of the New Year Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2015, at 7 p.m. at the La Porte County Historical Society Museum, 2405 Indiana Ave., La Porte.

The program will be “Show & Tell,” presented by attendees. Those participating will be given time to present information about a family heirloom or a history-related family story. Bring an artifact handed down through your family and share its history — tell about an interesting family-history occasion that has become a legend in your family.

This being January in La Porte County, remember the meeting will occur weather permitting.

You do not need to be a member to attend meetings, but it is suggested you attend and then consider becoming a member of the society. Membership affords free admission to the museum for the calendar year, receipt of the quarterly newsletter “The Oldletter” and free admission to many of the special events offered during the year.  What better gift could there be for that history-oriented friend or family member than a gift of membership?

Follow up on your New Year’s resolution to begin researching your La Porte County family history: Visit the Research Library in the museum and find some of the answers you are seeking.  The facility is handicapped accessible.

Current information about events and activities at the society and its museum is available at www.laportecountyhistory.org.
