The Homespun Harmony Extension Homemaker Club met Jan. 15, 2015, at 6 p.m. at the Extension Office in LaPorte. President Betty Carpenter called the meeting to order and roll call was answered by “A New Year’s resolution that you have kept” with 11 members and 5 guests present.

December minutes and the treasurer’s report were read and approved. Thank-you notes were received from the Good Shepherd Food Pantry and Rolling Prairie Methodist Church Food Pantry for the club’s recent donations to each.

Kathy Ulman gave a report on the Extension 100th Anniversary Open House held in December. The Extension Homemakers Project Day group will meet Jan. 19 at 9 a.m. at Janet Gourley’s home to sew quilts. The Needles Galore group meets on Mondays at the Extension Office at 9 a.m. for those who enjoy knitting and crocheting. The next Lend a Hand Day will be March 11 at 9 a.m. at the Extension Office for an all-day blitz to do sewing, knitting and crocheting for area agencies.

Members visited from the Merry Moderns Club; that group is co-chairing the International Fare committee with Homespun Harmony and Rolling Stones. The group discussed ideas for the upcoming event; date, place and a theme need to be chosen.  Various ideas were discussed. Dates were narrowed down to April 18 or April 25 and possible themes were Mardi Gras, Potatoes and Hoosier Hospitality. A planning meeting will be held Thursday, Jan. 29, at 3:30 p.m. at the Extension Office.

During the meeting, the annual soup-tasting night was held. Nine delicious soups were served: chili, slow-cooker savory cheese soup, Italian bean soup, ham chowder, beefy Ramen soup, cabbage roll soup, slow-cooker gingered carrot soup, quick & easy potato soup, and shrimp wild rice soup; along with 2 hot drinks and 2 desserts.

The next meeting will be Thursday, Feb. 19, at 6:30 p.m. at Betty Carpenter’s home.  Everyone is asked to bring a white-elephant gift for an auction with proceeds going to the Coins for Friendship and Nickels for Leadership projects.
