Joan Helterbrand Blevins Calahan, 73, of LaPorte, died Saturday, Jan. 24, 2015, at her daughter’s home.
She was born March 15, 1941, in LaPorte to Raymond Sr. and Nellie (Stone) Helterbrand.
Joan had worked for 10 years as a cashier for Kroger Co., retiring in 2003. She was a member of First Church of God of LaPorte. Joan was a biblical scholar and loved gospel music. She enjoyed crocheting and connecting with old friends on Facebook. Joan loved spending time with her family.
She is survived by her two daughters, Elizabeth “Beth” Hasko of LaPorte and Jennifer (Michael) Quimby of Rochester, IN; son, Andrew (Dawn) Blevins of Granger, IN; five grandchildren, Daniel Blevins, Dustin Hasko Sr., David James Hasko, Christopher Quimby, and Samantha Quimby; three great-grandchildren; aunt, Evelyn Meadors; and many nieces and nephews.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, one sister and a grandson.
The family will receive friends at Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, LaPorte, on Thursday, Jan. 29, from 2 to 4 p.m. A life celebration will be held Thursday at 4 p.m. at the funeral home. Cremation will take place after the service.
