You’ve seen the annual melt-and-mess. Along with glorious blooms and greening, the spring thaw also reveals discarded trash of all kinds along roads and highways. (Why in the world do people do this?)
Saturday, May 2, is your chance to join other citizens and the LaPorte County Solid Waste District in Clean It Up Day. “We’ll provide the supplies, you clean up litter countywide,” the SWD promises.
From 9 a.m. to noon, the SWD will welcome as many volunteers as possible — individuals or groups — to make a visible difference in and around the community. It’s all part of the national Keep America Beautiful Great American Cleanup.
Trash bags, bottled water, snacks and other things you will need will be donated by area businesses. All you have to do is go out and make a difference!
For more information or to select a site or get a site assignment, call the SWD at (219) 326-0014.
A thank-you luncheon for volunteers from all cleanups in LaPorte will be held at Fire Station 1, 18th and I streets, starting around noon.
