Heroin Awareness Walk

It’s time to make a stand against the ravages of heroin use in LaPorte County. That’s why Chris Day has organized a Heroin Awareness Walk to take place Friday, June 28, as the theme for the City of LaPorte’s Fitness Friday this week. The walk starts at 5:15 p.m. at the LaPorte Family YMCA on Michigan Avenue.

“This event was put in place after my family suffered the loss of a loved one due to this horrible drug,” Day said. Unfortunately, many other local families have suffered the same loss.

“It is time this community comes together and stands up and shows that we are supporting local law enforcement and we will not tolerate this problem anymore,” Day said in a press release.

Donations are being collected for free T-shirts that will be handed out at the event, then all other proceeds will benefit Worthy Recovery Inc.’s future events toward the same cause.

“This Is just the beginning of a new chapter in the war against substance abuse,” Day said.

“Teen Talk” June 27

In another event fighting the same problem, area teens and parents (with or without their teens) are invited to attend “Teen Talk: More Hope, Less Dope” on Thursday, June 27, at Portofino restaurant from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Doors open at 6. The event includes free appetizers and desserts.

Teens want hope, and so do parents and the organizers and sponsores of this event, including the LaPorte Mayor’s Office, LaPorte Savings Bank, Trudy Menke, LaPorte County Drug Free Partnership, and Worthy Recovery Inc.
