Patricia Ann Ledgerwood left behind grieving friends and family when she died in the early hours of July 6, 2015, at Golden Living Nursing Home, LaPorte, after an extended period of deteriorating health.
She was born Dec. 16, 1937, in Indianapolis, attended Arsenal Technical High School and married Walter Eugene (Bud) Ledgerwood, with whom she spent over 50 years as matriarch of the ever-growing family from their home in Union Mills, IN. As residents of Hamlet and Union Mills, she and Bud were past members and youth counselors at Tracy United Methodist Church and were longtime associates of the LaPorte Airport and the LaPorte Aero Club. She loved her family with a passion and sacrificed much of her personal life to ensure their health and well-being during critical points in all of their lives. She loved to cook and never let anyone leave her door hungry, she raised African violets, and verdant greenery was everywhere in and around their home. She was renowned for her tendencies to buck trends, to not go with the flow, and to meet all of life’s challenges head on.
Preceded in death by her parents, William and America Polston, her sister Nancy Decker, and her brother-in-law Donald Mann, she is survived by her husband, Walter (Bud) Ledgerwood; four sisters, Barbara (Dick) Newkirk, Janice Mann, Betty (William) Aughe and Billie (Wayne) Urton; and was mother to Leonard (Melanie) Ledgerwood, Charlotte (Scott) Bolka, Kevin (Ricki) Ledgerwood. Her life was further blessed by nine grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 9, at Essling Funeral Home-Frank L. Keszei, funeral director, LaPorte. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, July 10, at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Union Mills Cemetery.
