A Michigan City man was arrested shortly after allegedly robbing Horizon Bank in downtown Michigan City on Wednesday morning, Dec. 28, 2016, Michigan City Police said.
Arrested and charged with robbery was James L. Jones Jr., 31.
Police said a man entered the bank at 515 Franklin St. shortly after 9 a.m., approached a teller and presented a note demanding money. No weapon was displayed. After being given an undisclosed amount of money, he left on foot.
Officers and detectives immediately conducted interviews at the bank and based on information, set up surveillance at a Michigan City home. Several hours later police saw Jones leaving the home. After a short pursuit on foot, police arrested him. Police said Jones had evidence of the robbery on his person.
Also assisting were the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office and FAST Team, U.S. Marshal’s Service and Trail Creek Police. Police also thanked members of the community who provided valuable information.
This was the second business robbery in Michigan City in recent days. On Christmas Eve night, an armed man robbed DJ’s Express, 1701 Greenwood Ave.
