From the LaPorte County Drug Task Force:
On Thursday, Dec. 29, 2016, at 6:19 a.m., the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Department responded to a reported overdose at a residence in the 9400 north block of CR 500 West. Sheriff’s and EMS personnel found an unresponsive female, 35. She was transported to St. Anthony Hospital, where she was later pronounced deceased.
The LaPorte County Drug Task Force responded to the scene and began interviewing and conducting a search of the residence, where heroin was located. The investigation by the task force concluded that Lawrence R. Zitt III, 22, of Michigan City, had been selling heroin throughout LaPorte County.
… Probable cause was found to arrest Zitt for Dealing a Narcotic Drug, a Level 3 Felony. Zitt is being held without bond at the LaPorte County Jail, as he was currently out on bond for an unrelated heroin charge the previous week.
“I am pleased that the LaPorte County Drug Task Force, which is in its first week, was able to remove a dangerous drug supplier from the streets of our county,” Sheriff John Boyd said. “We look for continued success and cooperation from the public in cases like this.”
Assisting the task force were LaPorte County EMS, LaPorte County E-911, Springfield Township Fire Department and LaPorte County Coroner’s Office.
