Mrs. Doris M. Buell, 87, of LaPorte, died Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2017, at LaPorte Hospital.
She was born July 1, 1929, in Hanna, IN, to Grant and Ada (Knope) Hunsley.
Doris was a member of First United Methodist Church and was very active in her church circle. She volunteered at the LaPorte Hospital Gift Shop and was active with Play Pals. She was a past president and active member of the Lionettes. She also enjoyed playing golf in the 18-Hole Women’s League at Beechwood and helped keep score for Beechwood tournaments. In the 1950s and 1960s she was active in the Jayshees. One of her earliest job was working at Woolworth’s and making deposits for the store, where she met her husband, Glenn.
On Aug. 28, 1949, in Rolling Prairie, IN, she married Glenn D. Buell, who preceded her in death Oct. 11, 2008.
Doris was also preceded in death by her parents and brother, Richard Hunsley.
She is survived by her son, Doug (Cindy) Buell of LaPorte; daughter, Marty (Jim) Deal of Lowell, IN; three grandchildren, Adam (K.C.) Buell of LaPorte, Aaron (Theresa) Buell of Portage, IN, and Kevin (Karen) Deal of Lowell, IN; three sisters, Grace Jenkins of North Carolina, Ina Mae Diederich of Rolling Prairie and Shirley Toneff of Arizona; and three great-grandchildren, Myles Deal, Conor Deal and Vincent Buell.
The family will receive friends at Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, LaPorte, on Friday, Jan. 6, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. A life celebration will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Bob Vale officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery, Mill Creek, IN.
