LaPorte Lions action, April 29, 2013

LaPorte Lions met April 29, 2013, in the Monaco Room, Best Western Inn.

Boss Lion Oscar Ryl-Kuchar asked Ralph E. Howes to lead “God Bless America,” the Pledge of Allegiance and a Lions song. Sandra Provan offered prayer. Ryl-Kuchar told a genealogy joke.

Tom Ruda introduced James Wszolek, leader of the Speech and Debate Team at LaPorte High School, who introduced students Trent Tanber, who spoke about policy debate, the theme of which this year was transportation infrastructure, and Seth Brinsfield, who performed his piece.

New Business: Ruda read the nominating committee’s slate of officers for 2013-14 and asked for nominations from the floor. Those nominated are: president, Doug Buell; 1st vice president, Rita Mrozinski; secretary, Sandra Provan; treasurer, John Spiggle; two-year directors, Ruda and Russ Klosinski (still has one year of term); one-year director, Dom Liberatore and, nominated from the floor, Paul Marsh; tailtwisters, Ken Schnable and John McGing; Lion tamers, George Royster and Jim Day; Alert program representative, Bill Burkhart; newsletter editor, Schnable; music director, Ralph E. Howes. This is the first reading of the slate.

Burkhart suggested getting permission to leave old Lions magazines in doctors’ offices, gyms and hair salons with information about our club attached.

The next meeting will be Monday, May 6, at a new location, the back room at Western Inn on Ind. 2 West. Meeting to begin at 12:10 p.m.; order from the menu.
