Dec. 7, 1913 – “Lucky Baldwin” gives two addresses in LaPorte. He is in charge of the “Home of Hope” on Wells street in Chicago, where he takes men he picks up in prisons and on the street.
Dec. 7, 1963 – A breakout attempt by an armed robber at the LaPorte County Jail is thwarted by 18 officers from three law enforcement departments.
Dec. 7, 1988 – Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev speeds home from the U.S. after a devastating earthquake rocks the Soviet republic of Armenia.
