Jan. 9, 1914 – Archie Cross, a LaPorte boy who built a plant for the manufacture of automobile tops in Chicago, was put out of business by a fire which completely destroyed his factory.
Jan. 9, 1964 – Two small children die in a house blaze at 108 Furnace Street, LaPorte, after oil on the floor ignites.
Jan. 9, 1989 — The City of LaPorte annexes 167.9 acres of land on the east side for an industrial park.
Jan. 9, 2004 – The new Menards is just a brick’s throw away from competitor Lowes in Michigan City.
