Johnson Road between Country Club Drive and CR-500W was closed for almost an hour Friday night, Aug. 8, 2014, after a motorcycle and a car collided at the intersection of CR-400W and Johnson Road. The collision happened just after 10 p.m.
According to LaPorte County Police, the car, traveling north on CR-400W, stopped at the intersection and proceeded to turn east onto Johnson Road and was struck by the eastbound motorcycle traveling well above the posted 20 mph speed limit.
The critically injured and unresponsive motorcyclist was taken by LaPorte County EMS, with assistance from Center Township Volunteer Fire Department, to the Summit Farm to meet up with Medflight to be taken to a trauma center. But the Medflight chopper was grounded at the Summit after experiencing mechanical problems and the patient was instead taken by ambulance to a South Bend trauma center. Medflight was back in the air nearly two hours later.
